Hungry Lucy, Tori Amos, Rasputina on new Neil Gaiman Tribute Album

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

Tori Amos & author Neil GaimanHungry Lucy is very please to announce our appearance on a new tribute album for the work of author Neil Gaiman (Coraline, Sandman, MirrorMask). The album entitled “Where’s Neil When You Need Him?” was conceived by Patrick Rodgers and will be released by his Dancing Ferret label in mid-July, 2006. Other artists appearing on the tribute include Tori Amos, Rasputina, Lunascape, The Cruxshadows, Voltaire & Thoushaltnot.

From Billboard.com:

Rodgers, who is came up with the album’s concept and is acting as music supervisor, asked artists he knew were fans of the writer to compose material based on their favorite Gaiman character or story. Some fashioned songs after his more popular work, such as the comic book series “The Sandman,” while others took their inspiration from such rare pieces as his short story “The Goldfish Pool.”

The most high-profile contributor to the compilation is Tori Amos, a longtime friend of Gaiman’s who occasionally name-checks the writer in her lyrics. In fact, the album’s working title is a line taken from her song “Space Dog.” The track “Sister Named Desire,” which Amos originally recorded as a B-side for a European release, has been re-recorded for the album. “She was one of the first to come on board,” Rodgers says.

Hungry Lucy’s contribution is an exclusive song called, “We Won’t Go” written about the popular Gaiman book “The Wolves in the Walls“. HL will be performing this song as part of their new live set this year.

More details (including tracklist) will be posted soon … stay tuned.

Tea with Hungry Lucy podcast - Episode 19

Sunday, March 26th, 2006

Tea with Hungry LucyIn this whopping 40 minute episode of Tea with Hungry Lucy, Christa and War-N are joined by War-N’s parents. We think War-N felt like he was gonna get in trouble if he said something wrong. This week’s story behind the song is for the song Glo (from the album of the same name). Christa tells us how she wrote it for her Momma … sweet. War-N begs for work as a starving artist by asking promoters and venues from around the country to get in touch if they are interested in booking Hungry Lucy this Summer/Fall. After a slight technical glitch (user error) we launch into OPM (other people’s music). This week War-N talks about “Hold on Love” by Azure Ray (from their album Hold on Love) as well as “Heaven” by Lamb (from the album What Sound) and “Breathe Me” by Sia (from the album Colour the Small One). Both songs were used in the fabulous HBO series “Six Feet Under” (RIP). “Breathe Me” was used for the final montage of the entire series … very powerful. Christa talks about the band The Shroud (and their new/old album Drowning Dreams) and the fabulous band Claire Voyant (specifically their song, Love is Blind). War-N talked about Anji Bee (of Lovespirals) and her new podcast, Chillcast. The episode rounds out with another Thorn Apple track featuring the vocal talents of War-N’s dad, Peter Harrison … entitled Mezza Luna.

Tea with Hungry Lucy podcast - Episode 17

Sunday, March 12th, 2006

Tea with Hungry LucyHey look … it’s time for Tea with Hungry Lucy (Episode 17). This week Christa and War-N talk about the completion of recording tracks for their upcoming shows as well as the beginnings of work on new videos. The story behind the song focuses (slightly) on the song Storm (from the album Glo). Christa does hate that sunny weather so! The duo “officially” launch the new segment, OPM (Other People’s Music) and chat about Petracovich, Under, Human ii Human, and Sarah Fimm. War-N notes that it’s individual songs that typically “get ya” and Christa agrees with her strong attachment to the the song “Fix You” by Coldplay. Singer, songwriter, and actor extraordinaire, Clete Francis also comes up again. The podcast ends with some music from the new version of Storm that Hungry Lucy will be playing live this year.

Tea with Hungry Lucy podcast - Episode 16

Sunday, March 5th, 2006

Tea with Hungry LucyIn a decidedly loopy Episode 16 of Tea with Hungry Lucy, Christa and War-N explain the story behind the song “In the Circle” (from the album Glo) as well as progress on their preparations for some upcoming shows. Then the conversation turned a little loopy and Christa made a very scientific comparison between internet bandwidth consumption and Pacman as War-N ranted about Ricky Gervais charging for his podcast (we are still both big fans). As usual the duo also talked about who they’ve been listening to (Cara Aley, Severed Heads, Edward Shearmur, Tomandandy). Christa shared some of her literary faves (Edward Gorey, Lemony Snicket, JK Rowling, Neil Gaiman, Poe, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Jennifer Donnelly, and HP Lovecraft) and War-N explained that he has none. The podcast ends with a clip from a reworking of “In the Circle” by Louisa John-Krol and Brett Taylor (available on the double CD comp, Primal River Valley).
