Tea with Hungry Lucy podcast - Episode 34

Sunday, July 30th, 2006

Tea with Hungry LucyIn a slightly irritated start to this week’s chat, the duo talk about how the tour is NOT a vacation! After they vent a bit, they discuss the construction to begin on their house and the fact that it will get worse before it gets better. This week’s song to dissect is “Losing Faith” from the new EP “Before We Stand … We Crawl“. A stranger interrupts the chat flow, and creates a bit of concern, but soon goes away. Christa doesn’t really have an OPM other than Thorn Apple (and she shares a Thorn Apple song a bit later in the show) and War-N praises Happy Rhodes and Katherine Schell on their jobs well done in creating beautious tunage. Christa has another weird observation and asks for podcast listeners help to solve it. The episode ends with discussing more about Thorn Apple-ness and hopes for the future.

Thanks to fellow podcasters: Reaching for Lucidity, Podcast for Peace, Three from Leith, Dave’s Lounge and The Chillcast with Anji Bee for playing HL tunes over the past few weeks!

Tea with Hungry Lucy podcast - Episode 33

Sunday, July 23rd, 2006

Tea with Hungry LucyEpisode 33 of Tea with Hungry Lucy is pronounced the shameless self-promotion episode. This week Christa and War-N talk about (and play) the song “Harvest” (from the new EP “Before We Stand … We Crawl“), which is NOW available. Christa’s OPM this week is a cover of Yazoo’s “Situation” done by War-N’s old solo project, Fishtank No.9, and available on the “Thin Edge of the Wedge” compilation CD. More tour discussion follows along with a record number of mentions of booking agent extraordinaire … ALISA!

"Before We Stand … We Crawl" (new Hungry Lucy EP) available NOW!

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

Before We Stand ... We CrawlThe brand, spanking new Hungry Lucy EP, “Before We Stand … We Crawl” is available NOW from hungrylucy.com.

Rather than spend months in production, this time around the duo present “Before We Stand … We Crawl” as a collection of six raw, emotional songs. These basic arrangements use piano, acoustic guitar, strings, wind instruments and sparse drum parts to underpin Christa Belle’s heart-felt lyrics and highly emotive vocals. Taking the “less is more” approach, the duo purposely left each song exposed with emotion at the surface, stripping away any pretense that may surround electronic music.

In the OPM (other people’s music) but, War-N tells us about Corinne Bailey Rae and Christa shares her enjoyment of Lunascape. War-N also plugs a remix he did for Lunascape (available on the Venusa XX part 2 Comp.) Christa talks about about the artwork for HL’s 2nd CD, Glo. Tea with Hungry Lucy podcast - Episode 31

Sunday, July 9th, 2006

Tea with Hungry LucyEpisode 31 of Tea with Hungry Lucy starts with a brand new, highly tacky, intro. This week Christa and War-N talk about the impending release of their new EP, “Before We Stand … We Crawl” and point everyone to the new minisite to hear previews. The pair also discuss their upcoming tour, that has now spread to the entire US. We couldn’t leave you Westerners hanging! The story behind the song, is actually the story behind the album this week as Christa talks about the “To Kill a King” album and it’s meaning and inspirations. In the OPM segment Christa talks about the wonder of storyteller and performance artist Laurie Anderson (and specifically the song “Coolsville“) and War-N talks about Dave Cool’s fabulous film “What is INDIE?” … highly recommended (DIGG IT)!

Tea with Hungry LucyHey … it’s time for Tea with Hungry Lucy! Episode 30 features a special new intro from Jasna (Grant Mason’s daughter). This week Christa and War-N talk about the awkwardness of writing marketing materials for themselves. The story behind the song focuses on “Can You Hear Me?” (from the album “To Kill a King“) in which War-N does some vocal tricks and Christa sounds her glorious self. In this week’s OPM Christa talks about Johnny Cash, the movie “Walk the Line” and the forthcoming album “American V”. War-N talks about the talents of Azam Ali and her forthcoming album “Elysium for the Brave” as well as Nashville based trio Venus Hum and their new album “The Colors In The Wheel”. Ending the episode is the Thorn Apple version of Gary Numan’s “M.E.” wonderfully produced by Shawn Brice of Bloodwire.
