Tea with Hungry Lucy podcast - Episode 34

Tea with Hungry LucyIn a slightly irritated start to this week’s chat, the duo talk about how the tour is NOT a vacation! After they vent a bit, they discuss the construction to begin on their house and the fact that it will get worse before it gets better. This week’s song to dissect is “Losing Faith” from the new EP “Before We Stand … We Crawl“. A stranger interrupts the chat flow, and creates a bit of concern, but soon goes away. Christa doesn’t really have an OPM other than Thorn Apple (and she shares a Thorn Apple song a bit later in the show) and War-N praises Happy Rhodes and Katherine Schell on their jobs well done in creating beautious tunage. Christa has another weird observation and asks for podcast listeners help to solve it. The episode ends with discussing more about Thorn Apple-ness and hopes for the future.

If I’d only known that the tracks were up on the PMN then I’d have had one in this week’s show which I recorded on Friday… Och well, I’ll just have to wait until next week’s show. I’m sure the wait will be worth it though !

Nice Thornapple tracks - I do hope they get a release so we can listen to more; War-N will have to put his sweet-talking talents to good use to persuade the others to get them out there. I’ll have to play some Bloodwire sometime - I ws listening to my good friend Gabor’s Electrical Language podcast today too and he did a Boy/Girl show and Bloodwire were one of his picks. An excellent track it was too.

OPM / ‘Oppum’ - I almost thought you were about to do a Corporal Jones from Dad’s Army with a “They don’t like the cold steel, sir.. no…. they don’t like it OPM !”

But I’m rambling again. Great show as ever from my favourite couple !

  2. Christa Belle Says:

tank’ee koindly, sir ;) on all respects.

i need to listen to Gabor’s show too. the way you’ve spoken of his site sounds like i’d like him a lot.

and you know you can ramble on here as often as you wish. we all certainly do!!

i hope the Thorn Apple stuff can be heard more too. i’m really proud of it and i think it should be heard by more than just family. glad you liked it as well.

ok. time to have a cuppa. i’m just basking in the noise of the construction. it’s not too bad… yet :/ who knew one guy could make so much noise with a saw!!

    toodloo!

I honestly cant stop listing to the new EP. I used to be the same with all your albums, but I think I over listened them and left them incase I started to not like them as much (GASP!). I’m trying my best not to do it with “Before We Stand…We Crawl”, cuz I totaly love yer moosic :P I dunno what it is, I just feel the music seems to really flow with the vocals a lot better than ive ever heard you guys do, or maybe its just me… I don’t know. yay ~

I keep meaning to write you guys a cool letter and put awsome pressies inside but I can’t find any pretty stationary! poo.

If your lost for bands to talk ’bout, have you listened to Keane? Their new album “under the iron sea” is very nice, and if you’ve spoke of it already then im an idiot!!! X_X

    I wishys I had a podcast so it’d be like I was in the car… :( lol

I dunno if music in the bg would be good or kind of annoying lol hmmmmssss….

Oh, love that Thorn Apple song! :D :D its the most scrummy :P

Im trying to find out your wet clothes question. My loveleh boyfriend, Marcus, knows tones of stuff and usually when I ask silly questions like that he knows the answer. So I have txt him… but hes not txt back yet! I shall inform u of his answer :P hehe~

  4. Skeb Says:

    I hhaaaaavveee the answer!!

The reason why clothes look darker when wet.

Water has different optical properties than cloth fibres. It scatters the light (refracts it) so less of it bounces into your eye making it look darker.

    :D :D :D Marcus is so smart :D :D :D its funny :P

  5. Christa Belle Says:

THANKS SKEB!!!! i always wondered that, and for some reason that observation came out of nowhere yesterday :) please thank Marcus for me! i am now on my way to being 1% less insane :)

i agree on the bg music. too invasive for such random talk. just thought i’d throw that idea out and see what others thought.

i LOVE Keane, and i think i will mention them next week. i heard a bit of the new album through my sister Angie, but i need to get it for myself. i don’t download much off iTunes anymore. i think CD’s are so much better quality and have all the yummy artwork to boot!

later babe! thanks for stopping in :)

BTW - on this week’s show I say happy birthday to a listener and say that I know what present his wife is getting him… after hearing me rave about HL and checking back on my show archive, Melissa is buying Brad ‘To Kill A King’ !! Ahhhh, the power of my subtle ramblings ;-)

I have the new Keane album; whilst it’s not as upbeat and hook-laden as the first CD, it’s a good’un. It’s nice to see that they weren’t afraid to develop their style and didn’t get stuck trying to repeat the singalongability (is that in the dictionary ?!) of their debut.

I’m also rather taken with the latest CD from Muse; I’m smitten with those strange, distorted, arpeggiating synth lines behind the driving guitars. Nice !!

    Grant

  7. Skeb Says:

Oh I love Muse! :) Their new album is definately awsome. Very odd but unique. Fun fun!!

I feel bad cuz I sort of like Justin Timberlake’s new song x_X but he sounds… black!! His voice is distorted or something and it makes it sound lower than his actuall voice… but for some reason I like it lol

    nuuuuu!!!!

  8. Christa Belle Says:

yo Skebbeh… as we always say, like what YOU want to like. not what you’re expected to like by anyone else :)

and Grant, i think that term, singalongability, SHOULD be a word in the dictionary!! good call. ooh… it’s Tuesday and i have errands to do. you know what that means don’t you? you’re going in the car with me to chat away the miles :)

ok. starting the morning with another bang… more construction, which is good!! soon we’ll have our beloved bedroom back. now, i just have to get up the nerve to be in it again :/ kinda weird.

    love to all!!

  9. KinGizzard Says:

K, not sure if anyone is gonna read this, but my song of the month is Mindless Self Indulgence’s Song, Shut Me Up

Got the Metropolis 2005 collection when ordering ‘Where’s Neil’ and ho boy! They have the absolute strangest video (picture a balding boney guy working behind a register, who just snaps and shoots people with his laser scanner… tosses a baby doll in to some guy’s chest, and a hand puppet that appears for all of 1.5 seconds and steals the show)

I know they have a version on MySpace that is kinda the same thing, just cuts to them singing often, and that takes away from the insane crazy hyper fun-fun hoopah, plandoogie!

Oh, I regret to inform you, since you will be in Peoria in September, I will also be there to bug the hell outta you! YAAAAYYYYYYYYY

  10. Christa Belle Says:

YAY!!! we can bug each other :) it’ll be great to see you again. we’ve only met in Chicago that one time at the Wolfsheim show. but hey… something is better than nothing, ay? :) we should get a group photo together. we don’t do that enough with our friends. remind us and we should get someone to take one! we may even have a special friend for you to meet too… no hints. ;) i’ll just say he gets very excited very easily!!

ok. now that i’ve left you with something to think about, i’ll go!

    take care MUHNKEE BOY!!

  11. War-N Says:

I talked to Mr. Gizzard in Chicago at the Bottom Lounge as well. :)

  12. KinGizzard Says:

    The Bottom Lounge!

I have been trying to remember the name of that place FOR EVER!

I remember that Garbage was in town the same night, and thier performance ended BEFORE yours! Funnay!
