Fountain Square show

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

We played our 40 minute set on Fountain Square yesterday evening. We were pleased to see so many folks come out in support. It was also great to reach a few new fans.

Thanks to Laura Smith for the photo!

I must admit, it felt very strange to be playing in a sea of concrete in the broad daylight. It actually made it difficult to get lost in the performance, especially with the passing fire truck sirens. The set went well, despite a few hiccups. The last 3 songs is where the set really kicked in. That is mostly due to the “emptiness” of our current live setup. I think we’re both ready to bring back the video and laptop … it just feels richer that way.

Nevertheless, we had a good time and want to thank everyone that came out as well as Puck (for booking us) and Bill Donabedian and the 3CDC for bringing the event together.

Fountain Square … nearly time

Friday, June 29th, 2007

It’s a few hours away from our gig on Fountain Square. It looks like the weather will cooperate as well. We have a nice, compact and diverse set ready and are both looking forward to the performance. This is very new territory for us. For one thing, we’re playing outdoors in full (perhaps clouded) sunlight. More importantly, we’re getting a chance to show off our mad skills to a more mainstream audience than we’re used to.

For those outside the area, the newly renovated Fountain Square is (arguably) the heart of Cincinnati with plenty of foot traffic. We’re playing at 5:30pm so hopefully we’ll get some folks just wandering through on their way home. I hope we’ll win over some new fans …. stay tuned for a post show analysis.

Tea with Hungry Lucy - Episode 76 (Grandma’s Fireworks)

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

Tea with Hungry LucyThis week brings a tired Christa Belle & War-N to your ears post-rehearsal and post-dinner. The sleepy, full-bellied kids ramble on for a few minutes about this and that. Some of which including the new iTunes cd sales without copy protection and the surprising number of sales this brought. Good for them! OPM’s included Echostream from CB’s music rack and Siobhan Donaghy from War-N’s list. CB vows to shut the hell up about explaining every little gardening thing she does to those around her, for fear of losing all ties to family and friends!! Funny how things we love, others don’t so much (for those that do, lots here). War-N talks more about “Surface vs. Substance” and wants to dig deeper into where HL’s surface went. War-N recalls watching CB and her Daddy take a drive in a rockin’ truck. A kick-ass 87 Chevy truck that Christa’s Dad rebuilt from the body up. Yeeeeeee haw!!! Ahhh…nothing like Fireworks that Grandma used to make. Reminds me of home.

What are your thoughts on surface vs. substance? here.

Tea with Hungry Lucy - Episode 75 (Some sort of Awesome Park)

Sunday, June 17th, 2007

Tea with Hungry LucyHey. it’s time for another Tea with Hungry Lucy. This week CB and War-N talk about their Tuesday show at Northside Tavern. The seemingly dodgy PA surprised us all. The pair also talk about their upcoming show on Fountain Square which will debut a new version of the song that started it all (Blue Dress). Christa talks about her new video series that shows us all what goes on behind the scenes. OPM’s this week include CB’s picks: Michael Oberst and Nathaniel Seer and War-N’s picks: Stephanie’s ID (and their new CD) and an alternate piece of media in the shape of Tyim Courts’ brilliant 3-a-week comic strip, Under the Lids. War-N speaks of future music and keeping it more layered than the stripped down versions they’ve been doing live.

Music first … oh please!!

Friday, June 15th, 2007

Fairness in radio starting today
http://www.musicfirstcoalition.org/

Oh please … radio offers huge promotional benefits to both artists and labels. This has been the understanding and arrangement for many year. Now, major labels are seeing CD sales slipping (due to crap product, IMHO). Their method of adapting is to attempt to squeeze cash from where ever they can no matter who else it hurts. To me, this is the equivalent of advertisers asking for TV or magazines to pay them for the privilege of displaying their fine ads.

I create and sell music, so I’m “supposed” to think this is great. This is no fairness in my opinion. This is just the RIAA and Co. changing the rules to suit themselves and I want no part of it!

Rehearsals, videos … and that

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

OK, so we’ve been pretty busy prepping for the show on Tuesday evening. Rehearsals have been good … especially when CB got violent and started breaking stuff. You can hear about that on the podcast. :)

We shot a bunch of informal interview video today for Christa’s forthcoming series of video that she’s calling “Life with Hungry Lucy”. The first installment of that should be up next Sunday (June 17th).

Other than that, please tell your friends about what we’re doing, musically. Some CD sales would be handy right now. I’ll stop short of begging though! ;P

Tea with Hungry Lucy - Episode 74 (Salad Shooters)

Sunday, June 10th, 2007

Tea with Hungry LucyAfter a one-week hiatus, Christa and War-N are back to delight you with tales of musical excursions, violently smashing rehearsals, War-N’s Facebook fun and Bjork spoofs. War-N speaks about some other people’s music in the form of the delicious Tania Moran (who reminds War-N of Olivia Newton-John) and the fascinating new project from Collide and Daren Garcia (of Curve) called The Secret Meeting. Christa tells us of her plans for a new video series and promises to deliver the first one next week … personally, I’m moist with anticipation! War-N also alludes to some life-changes in the not too distant future, but we’re unsure of what’s the hell he’s talking about … what’s new? ;P

Hungry Lucy perform this Tuesday (June 12) at Northside Tavern in Cincinnati with the amazing Stephanie’s Id.

Comments? here.
