Tea with Hungry Lucy #115 (Dedications and Speaking Disorders)

Tea with Hungry Lucy (now with added socks)At last, the (triumphant?) return of Tea with Hungry Lucy! In honor of Memorial Day, Christa and War-N kick off the episode with a live performance of the New Order song “Love Vigilantes” (originally recorded for the “True Faith” album). Some explanation of the unplanned Hiatus follows in amongst CB & W’s difficulties with forming simple sentences. War-N talks a bit about the film “A Mighty Heart” and how if affected him and Christa talks about beautiful visual impact of the film “Perfume“. Other People’s Music chatted about was the song “New Soul” by Yael Naim (from her self-titled album) and the album “Dreaming of Revenge” by Kaki King. War-N learned about Kaki on the excellent podcast “World Cafe: Words and Music (Feed)”. The podcast rounds out with “My Beloved” (from the album “To Kill a King”), dedicated this week to our new nephew, Micah.

What Hungry Lucy song would you dedicate to a loved one?

    *Wonderful* cover, guys.

Why the ‘not famous’ remark over holding babies?

Random: Christa Belle, my acupuncturist says you sound like Madonna.

CB’s obscure reference being “small and not famous” is from a Rasputina song “Dwarfstar“. The line going something like “I could never be a Dwarfstar because I was too tall, and I’m not famous” :)

Listen to that very clip of Dwarfstar »

    Hey War-N and Christa Belle,

I enjoyed the New Order cover in the beginning.
I am currently working on a series of pieces on the casualties of war in the “Dreams are buried here …” series. I am recording this with my friend Artie Q. The first piece is already on myspace and the rest will follow soon. It is the first time I am writing music with someone who is on the other part of the world (Artie is in L.A. and I’m in Belgium). It’s a great experience.

Yael Naim is great! I saw her when she was singing a part in the french musical “Les Dix Commandements” (The Ten Commandments). A great musical by the way, and don’t let you be put off by the word “musical”. The music is by Pascal Obispo and sounds very modern, not like the cheesy stuff that is often associated with musicals. You should try to see it, it is available on dvd (but I’m not sure if it is on region 1).

If you liked the movie “Perfume”, I also recommend that you read the original novel by Patrick Süskind. He was also involved in the making of the movie, that is I think that is partly why the movie is so good too. The way he describes al these scents in his book is amazing.

We watched “A Mighty Heart” some time ago too. It makes you wonder why people do these kind of awful things to each other. And the strength of this women is so great and admirable. It is like you see both the darkest and strongest side of humanity at the same time. A movie that makes you think…

I loved the opening Memorial Day song (it’s a cover? darn, hoped it was a preview track from the next album… ;-) ) and “My Beloved” too. Oh and all the TWHL rambling of course – it’s what’s been lacking from the rigmarole of my life of late! :-)
