State of the album
Work on the next album (title TBA) continues, though at a far more glacial pace than desired. Truth is, I (War-N) am gone for 12-hour days during the week so the weekend is Hungry Lucy time. That said, we are making great progress and these songs are our strongest material to date. We are cutting no corners for this album. If it’s not 100% awesome, it’s no good.
As you may recall, we got to a point last year… or was it 2 years ago (blimey) where we had an album’s worth of songs, but only a few that we truly loved. So, we trashed them all and started again. It’s possible (though unlikely) that these songs will see the light of day sometime. But, if their not great… why bother, right?
So, what we have at the moment is ten bloody good songs. Nine of these are arranged, recorded and in the final mix stage. That’s the point where we get even more picky and nothing is quite good enough. It’s the point where every slight adjustment can produce a thousand permutations of the same thing. It’s the point we have to get over ourselves and recognize that it’s the song, the story that counts. Pick one permutation and commit to it. As any of you “perfectionists” out there can attest to, this is easier said than done. But, it shall be done. The tenth song is one that just came about one night as we tinkered. It came to be a beautiful combination of Tori Amos and Fever Ray and we loved it. It needs everything done to complete it… it shall be done.
So… timing? Not yet. How’s that for avoidance? But… we’re edging ever close… and you’ll be the first to know. Thanks for listening. Thanks for waiting.
