Hungry Lucy, Tori Amos, Rasputina on new Neil Gaiman Tribute Album

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

Tori Amos & author Neil GaimanHungry Lucy is very please to announce our appearance on a new tribute album for the work of author Neil Gaiman (Coraline, Sandman, MirrorMask). The album entitled “Where’s Neil When You Need Him?” was conceived by Patrick Rodgers and will be released by his Dancing Ferret label in mid-July, 2006. Other artists appearing on the tribute include Tori Amos, Rasputina, Lunascape, The Cruxshadows, Voltaire & Thoushaltnot.

From Billboard.com:

Rodgers, who is came up with the album’s concept and is acting as music supervisor, asked artists he knew were fans of the writer to compose material based on their favorite Gaiman character or story. Some fashioned songs after his more popular work, such as the comic book series “The Sandman,” while others took their inspiration from such rare pieces as his short story “The Goldfish Pool.”

The most high-profile contributor to the compilation is Tori Amos, a longtime friend of Gaiman’s who occasionally name-checks the writer in her lyrics. In fact, the album’s working title is a line taken from her song “Space Dog.” The track “Sister Named Desire,” which Amos originally recorded as a B-side for a European release, has been re-recorded for the album. “She was one of the first to come on board,” Rodgers says.

Hungry Lucy’s contribution is an exclusive song called, “We Won’t Go” written about the popular Gaiman book “The Wolves in the Walls“. HL will be performing this song as part of their new live set this year.

More details (including tracklist) will be posted soon … stay tuned.

New Hungry Lucy blog/podcast site online

Saturday, November 19th, 2005

HL blog thumbWe have set up a new blog/podcast site for Hungry Lucy. It will be used to post all of our news, blog posts, and podcasts and (most importantly) give you an easy way to post comments. While it’s not terribly pretty right now, it will be integrated into a new website design over time.

On the note of podcasts, we now have a couple in the works. A standard audio podcast and a video podcast named “video to go”. Here we will post music videos, live performances and behind the scenes footage. The first and second “episodes” are available now via this site, or via iTunes.

So … stay tuned as this site will certainly fill out before too long. Be sure to give us feedback on what we’re doing right or wrong and what you’d like to see up here.

Indie Music … why you should care

KnightwiseWithout getting up on too much of a soapbox here, I urge everyone to check out the most recent podcast from Knightwise.com. Partly because it features quite a bit of Hungry Lucy… but (far more importantly) as it sheds some light on the current state of the music industry, and what we can all do to help change it.

2 compilations added to website

Sunday, October 23rd, 2005

Two new compilations on which Hungry Lucy appears have been added to the website.
The first is “Primal River Valley” (2 CD set) released by Latex Records. This is a cool concept compilation melding the ancient past with the present by presenting the music of electronic artists that have an ancient, worldly feel to them. Hungry Lucy’s contribution is actually a collaboration between Hungry Lucy and the amazing Australian world/celtic artist Louisa John-Krol (and her producer Bret Taylor). The result is a wonderfully organic version of “In the Circle”. You can peruse the tracklist here and order it directly from our web store here for only $10.

The second compilation is the massive “State of Synthpop 2005” released by A Different Drum. Hot on the heels of their 2003 five-disc box set, the label has surpassed it with a HUGE 6 CD set! It goes without saying that this comp is a veritable smorgasbord of synthpop goodness. The tracklist is way too huge to list here … so head over to the CD detail page for the info. While we don’t have this one in stock, you can order it direct from A Different Drum here
